Book Two : The Dragons Egg : Chapter VII: Behind the Chapter

Deception

VII

Theodore

Behind the Chapter

This most defiantly was a hard chapter to write, despite it being the shortest, for several reasons. Theodore is a mess and his world and views are falling around him like flies and he is becoming less like himself and more like the man portrayed in the prophecy and this is scary not just for him but for Eveline. This book is aimed at redemption on Theodore’s part and he is trying in vain to do his best, but he just cannot let go of all the injustice that surrounds him and his lost reputation, taken from him by his best friend, his wife and his master. I really feel for Theodore but at the same time he doesn't make matters easy, he is allowing himself to fall into the shadow simply because he thinks he has the right, yet he doesn't. Theodore is unable and has always been unable to admit to himself that he is flawed and that he has messed up and so when his pride takes a beating he usually reacts wrongly and thus faces terrible consequences. The problem is, Lagar knows too well how Theodore reacts and he knows that the prophecy will break him apart and that his pride will not be able to take it and so he doesn’t need to be directly involved in this book, because he is relying on Theodores reaction and right now, everything is going to plan. Theodore also trying to deal with the pain of losing Jophiel, the only real person who ever fully understood and loved him in spite of his flaws. He believes he is alone in the universe and everyone has turned against him and those who serve Lagar are awaiting him to fall, they need him to turn to the shadows for the prophecy to hold truth and for Lagar and Heidan’s plan to take course. It is a sad thing to see such a great person fall so deep and hard, and to see him struggle so much but that is part of Theodore, he has never been a good loser and he has never conceded to anyone. Laura plays a small part in this book and yet, I think she is quite important to Theodore, even if he doesn't see her in that light. She is a breath of fresh air and I believe she brings Theodore back to life even if only for a short time, but his heavy drinking and bipolar mood swings make him a hard person to be around, especially a hard person to save. It will be interesting to see what happens to both Theodore and Laura.

P.s – I would like to remind you that these draft chapters are just that, drafts. Writing a book means creating layers and so I am just giving you a glimpse of the content in its rawest form, so that when the book is complete you can for yourself acknowledge the evolution that occurs.
