Chapter
one
Order
of the gaurdians
For this chapter I spent a few
weeks researching the mining town of Whitehave which is located on the western
coast of England and is nestled in the county of Cumrbia. It was hard finding
direct sources for this chapter as it is set during the backdrop of the Second
World War. However, I managed to find several key witness stories to life in
Whitehaven, during the war and the everyday daily activities. I also managed to
find some great photographs of the town and harbor.
Eveline and Matthew have traveled from the town of Keswick to Whitehaven in a rush against time to get
Eveline to the island of Anglessy for the summer solisitce, in which she can
use the stone circle at Ravinston School of Magic to return to her own world of
Unas. On their tail are the four knights of Hell, ancient beings that were once
so powerful the dark lord, Lagar put them to sleep for fear of their power.
Eveline is a little
disorientated after leaving Theodore ( Husband) behind in Keswick, upon finding
out that is was indeed he that stabbed Galean, who now lies dying in the palace
of Meer. Finding truth in the prophecy, Eveline places her trust in the young
minister and masonic leader, Matthew. In secrecry, Matthew has written to three
of his closest friends, Olivia Chittick, Edward Linely and William Talbot, all
of whom were once named the order of the gaurdians. They all attended Ravinston
School together and Mattthew believes that together, they can aid and protect
Eveline.
Alone and unable to venture
out into the open, Eveline finds herself under house arrest in a small two up
and two down house which is located down at the docks of whitehaven. It is
important to note that she has only just come through what is in her mind the
worst of years and is still coming to terms with the terrible deaths of her
adoptive mother and her husbands once fiance and friends. Riddled with guilt
she finds herself in a vicious cycle of self doubt and pity. Matthew believes
that Eveline is returning to Unas in order to take up her claim of the throne
and knows not that she is instead returning to Galean.
In this first chapter we meet
Matthew’s friends and we see the coming together or new plans, one being to
make a detour and sail to the Isle of Man in which to present Eveline to the
High Priest of the druids, Merlin. Not all of the companions agree to such a
journey, Olivia in particular is skeptical of Merlin and always has been, he
growing ever more distant from his once great self, she believes he may use
Eveline in order to fufil his own interests.
Part of the chapter
concentrates on a memory that Eveline holds dear, a memory of Galean. I want
the core of their love story to flow throughout this book, despite them both
being on different planets with one on deaths door. We have to find
justification in why Eveline has left her husband for Galean and must be
convinced of her actions. It is a troubled love triangle and the ever troubled
love story only becomes more complicated, but somehow these two lovers have to
find one another if the prophecy is to be fulfilled. And it is their ardent
devotion to one another that fuels their survival, no matter the hurdels along
the way. The reader needs to feel her pain and conflictions, they need to feel
irate, confused and impatient, because that is exactly how Eveline feels.
I decided to give Eveline a
pet, and at first it sounds a little much as there is already so much going on
in her story line and there are enough characters to keep the plot plump to say
the least, but she had a great love for her dog, Wordsworth who is lost but
will make a reappearance along the way. It also came to my mind that if I were
Heiden, I would be wanting to keep a close eye on my heir and so Eveline is
introduced to a young raven, whose golden eyes reminds her of her grandfather.
The raven will act as a protector and spy for Heiden himself. It will also act
as a channel for Eveline to unleash her inner most feelings and fears, because
that is one of the great pro’s of having a pet. She can dispense upon him her
inner most problems without having to dispense with them upon her new
companions.
