Character Interview : Eveline : Part One
An
Interview with Eveline (Celestine)
Three days ago, Eveline made the
difficult decision to leave her best friend and husband, Theodore under the
cover of night, with the help of the local reverend, Matthew. Together both
Eveline and the right honourable reverend Matthew have made their way south
from Keswick (Lake District) to Whitehaven, a small town within the county of
Cumbria and along the North West coastline. It is the year 1941, the month
being April and the day, the ninth. The country is currently deeply embedded in
the Second World War and I am currently sitting within a dark and decomposing
old pub near to the port of Whitehaven. Before me sits Eveline, a young woman
with vivid golden eyes and fiery auburn hair, which is simply curled beneath her
hood. Beside her sits the quiet and young minister, Matthew, whose eyes are
impressed upon the door of the pub as though awaiting someone. Outside the sun
is setting and the rain is falling so hard that the roof above me is filled
with thunder. Eveline’s golden eyes are downcast and glued to a small glass of
wine with which she is circling the rim with her right index finger, her gaze
hard and unyielding.
Me: Eveline, can you explain to me
why it is you are here without your husband?
Eveline: I left him.
Me: Can you tell me why? Did you
have a fight or an argument?
Eveline: No, we did not fight or
argue, I left him to protect him.
Me: From yourself or an outside source?
Eveline: You could say both.
Me: Would you care to elaborate for
us?
Eveline slowly lifts her very vivid
gaze to me and stops circling the rim of her glass, her brows furrowed and her
bottom lip shaking slightly.
Eveline: You wish to know
everything?
Me: If you wouldn’t mind.
Eveline: My real name is Celestine…
Me: But you use the name of Eveline?
Eveline: It is my human name, given
to me by my adopted mother, Estelle.
Me: Human name?
Eveline: Yes. I am not from this
world and my true name brings with it great peril to all those who surround me.
Me: You are not from this world?
Eveline: I was born on a planet
called Unas, within the kingdom of Calnuthe. I am the daughter of the last High
King, Elieor and daughter of the last High Queen Unyae, who was also the only
daughter of the God, Heiden.
Me: Forgive my ignorance, what you
are trying to tell me is that you are in actual fact an heir to a kingdom and
granddaughter of a God?
Eveline: I thought you were an
angel?
Me: Well no actually, my friend
Catherine is but she received some ill news and bade me to interview you
instead.
Eveline aka Celestine, blinks her
eyes and furrows her brows even deeper as I try to calm the waves of shock and
curiosity.
Eveline: Why am I being interviewed
exactly?
Me: For your general audience,
followers and fans.
Eveline: And who gave you
permission?
Me: Well your creator actually.
Eveline rolls eyes in a creative
manner.
Eveline: And you have absolutely no
idea who I am or the story in which you are supposed to be versed on?
Me: In a nutshell yes…
Me: No, no I want to know more about
you. Please don’t let my ignorance deter you from what you were about to say.
Eveline: You’re sure?
Me: Positively. Please go on.
Eveline: I am as you said so
eloquently the heir to the kingdom of Calnuthe and granddaughter of the God
Heiden, known by humans as Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim, El- Shaddai, Allah, Abba,
God and other names.
Me: And you have always known this?
Eveline: No, I was recently
enlightened as to my real name and identity a few months ago.
Me: May I ask how?
Eveline: That is a very long story.
Me: I have all the time in the
world.
Eveline: You may, but my time is
limited.
Me: You don’t wish to speak of it?
Eveline: I haven’t spoken about the
last year to anyone, not even myself.
Me: You can trust me.
Eveline takes in a deep breathe
before regaling to me the events of the last year.
Eveline: I was placed into the care
of many couples before I was placed into the care of my late mother, Estelle
when I was eleven years old. Estelle had a few months earlier, adopted another
child, his name being Theodore, although this information has transpired to be
a lie.
Me: A lie?
Eveline: Theodore is in fact an
angel, a guardian who was assigned to keep me safe.
Me: Theodore is your husband, yes?
Eveline: Yes. We married two years
ago before Theodore was called up for service in the RAF.
Me: So you fell in love with your
guardian?
Eveline stops speaking and lowers
her gaze to her left hand, which lies carefully upon her knee, clasping within
it a small leather bound bible.
Eveline: It depends on your idea of
love.
Me: You did not fall in love with
him?
Eveline: When I was growing up in
Keswick, I was labelled a witch and thus spent little time among other
children, especially boys. The only man I knew was Theodore and in my way I did
love him, as I thought a woman should love a man.
Me: And now?
Eveline: My eyes have been opened.
Me: Care to explain?
Eveline: Theodore was injured
during a night raid over London several months ago and when he was resting in
hospital, an angel called Galean visited him and revealed to him his true
identity as it had been stripped off him when he was transformed into a child.
Galean who transpired to be one of his closest friends took Theodore from the
hospital to an old friend called Lier, who took him in whilst he was recovering.
Unknown to myself and my husband, the enemy of my grandfather, Heiden had
received news of my location via a servant called Lagmar and so I was and am
being hunted down by an army of shadows and their master and lord, Lagar.
Me: Because you are the granddaughter
of Heiden?
Eveline: In a nutshell yes, but the
matter runs deeper than that. I am the heir to the kingdom of Aurelius, known
to most as the kingdom of Heaven. But I am not the only heir. All those who
bare the blood of Heiden are gifted with power that is unprecedented to any
other living being. I also happen to be the heir to my father’s Kingdom of
Calnuthe, which happens to be under the rule of my half-brother, Heidan.
Me: He is named after your
grandfather?
Eveline: My mother Unyae wished him
to be named after her father, in the hope that he would visit her
.
Me: Visit her?
Eveline: During a raid initiated by
Lagar, demons invaded Aurelius and Lagmar’s son, Lagman and his followers
killed my grandmother and three uncles. My mother survived but in many ways it
is she who suffered the most at the hands of Lagar who impregnated her. My
grandfather, riddled with grief brought my mother to the planet of Unas and
placed her within the secret garden of Kings, called Calhuni. This garden lies
within the kingdom of Calnuthe. There she gave birth to my brother and raised
him alone, always in hope that my grandfather would return and bring her home.
Me: And did he?
Eveline: No.
Eveline’s golden eyes, now shining
against the flicker of the candle that lies placed within a lantern in the
middle of the table.
Me: What happened?
Eveline: Heidan grew up in
resistance of the light, the older he became the more drawn to darkness did he
become. He left my mother and the garden and journeyed south to the kingdom
Ruarr and became a servant of the terrible King, Islaer.
Me: What happened to your mother?
Eveline: She walked under the
ancient trees of Calhuni for many years until a young prince entered, wishing
to be crowned High King of Calnuthe.
Me: Your father?
Eveline: Indeed. He almost
instantly fell in love with my mother and after a year of separation, returned
to the garden and took her from it, bringing her south to the great city of
Caci, marrying her and making her the last High Queen.
Me: How do you know all this?
Eveline: At first I bore witness to
the events of my parents through a set of visions. It was during one of my
visions that I first met Lagar.
Me: How?
Eveline: I was unaware of who I
was, only acknowledging that I was different and set apart from those who I
deem as normal. During one of my visions, which occurred upon the week of my
husband’s enlightenment, I awoke to Lagar standing in wait for me.
Me: How did he find you?
Eveline: Lagmar remember?
Me: Ah yes, I remember. Do go on.
Eveline: I was weak and without
knowledge of the power I possess and so I could not force him off me, nor could
I prevent his snake, Nagtium from biting my neck. That night marked the first
night of my story. It was that night that I met Galean for the first time.
Eveline’s lips curl a little at the
mention of his name before straightening once more, her eyes watering with
emotion.
Me: Your husband’s friend, the
angel?
Eveline: He is not just an angel.
He also is an heir and prince.
Me: I’m confused.
Eveline: My father’s kingdom, holds
within it three smaller kingdoms; Ruarr to the East, Calnuthe to the South and
Taer to the West. However all three kingdoms are bound by a great mountain
range to the north, that separates Calnuthe from the Kingdom of Meer to the
north, also divided into three smaller Kingdoms; Dulthe to the East, Fiar to
the North and Galgor to the West. Galean is the oldest of three brothers; Beon,
King of Galgor and Loaki, King of Fiar. He is the son of the great High King,
Ballor and heir to the Kingdom.
Me: But he is an angel too? How can
that be?
Eveline: His bloodline can be
traced back to the great angel, Gabriel. During the battle of the Heavens,
angels where given the choice to flee and seek refuge elsewhere within the
universe and one of Gabriel’s sons did so and made his home among the planet
Unas, to be more precise within the ancient lands that are now the three
kingdoms of Meer.
Me: How do you know all this?
Eveline: My grandfather told me
when we met.
Me: So to get back on track, you
were bitten by Lagar’s snake, yes?
Eveline: Yes and by some strange
coincidence Galean showed up at that very precise moment and saved me.
Me: What happened next?
Eveline: I took ill for a few days
and was bound to my bed, the bite of the snake had riddled my body with poison,
unbeknownst to myself.
Me: And Galean?
Eveline: My mother, Estelle and
Belle an evacuee from London made Galean welcome.
Me: Why had he come?
Eveline: He was ordered by Gabriel
to bring me back to London with him, to St Pauls.
Me: Why St Pauls?
Eveline: There are only a few
places which can protect my grandfather from being attacked, they are usually
holy places like cathedrals.
Me: And so you travelled to London
when you were better?
Eveline: No. Estelle had received
word from an old friend, Mary, who resides in Bath that she had lost her son.
We arranged matters so that we would spend a week in Bath before travelling
east to London. But not all plans go accordingly.
Me: How do you mean?
Eveline: The poison was slowing
beginning to kill me and render my mind vulnerable to a demon called Nathaniel,
known for possessing the minds of Lagar’s enemies. We travelled to Bristol on
our way to Bath and made arrangements to stay overnight. But as luck would have
it, our stay was not without its problems. Bristol has suffered terrible night
raids and during our stay, suffered their most bloody. I decided to visit St
Peters cathedral alone, for the evening service. During the service a bomb fell
upon the cathedral and threw me from my place and rendered my unconscious. When
I awoke, I crawled through the park for safety, but none was to be found, bombs
fell from the sky like drops of rain from a thunderous cloud and the only
safety I found, was beneath a tree. Bodies was strewn everywhere and the sky
was filled with an orange glow and pitiful cries of pain.
Eveline closes her eyes as though
transported back to that very night.
Me: I read about the blitz in the
paper, small though the article was. May I ask how you survived such a night of
terror? Being in the very center of it all.
Eveline: Honestly, I don’t know how
I survived, because everyone around me fell to their deaths and I somehow
lived. I clung to the tree for dear life and prayed to God for deliverance or a
quick death. I spared a quick death and delivered.
Eveline opens her golden eyes and
looks into my own with an intensity so deep, I can almost feel my core shake.
Eveline: I heard the barks of my
dog, Wordsworth and when I looked away from the tree, I saw him coming towards
me.
Me: Who?
Eveline: Galean.
